Four channels, not two

A 4-channel radio puts throttle, elevator, ailerons and rudder on separate controls. That is the layout of a real fixed-wing airplane, so the stick habits built here carry straight over to a bigger model later. Two-channel flying toys steer closer to a car and teach almost nothing you can reuse.

Every model in the table uses a 2.4 GHz radio rated to 656 feet.

  • Flight times are maximums in favorable air. Full throttle, repeated climbs and aerobatics all eat into them, and wind makes the motor work harder to hold the same line.
  • Land with power still in reserve. Waiting for the motor to fade turns a routine approach into an emergency.
  • Treat 656 feet, roughly 200 meters, as a limit rather than a target. A 15-inch airplane gets hard to read long before the signal runs out.
  • Versions, colors and included accessories change between production runs. Two airplanes sold under the same name can ship different contents.

If you are like me and remember growing up wanting to fly an R/C plane, but was hesitant because of the learning curve and fear of crashing it within 10 minutes of flying it, have no fear. I came across these by chance, and after reading all the great reviews, decided to take a chance. I figured with the value of the dollar these days, $100.00 wasn't gonna sting as bad if I got 1 use out of it. I cannot give this product enough praise. If you are on the fence, I promise you won't be disappointed. More than likely, once you've had the chance to fly the plane, you'll be ordering another for a friend or family member to join you. These planes come with everything you need to fly right out of the box. I highly recommend purchasing additional batteries and another charger. I found a deal on here that came with 5 batteries and a charger for less than 15 bucks. The secret to these planes is in the tech. You have 3 levels of flight control making it suitable for extreme beginners to more seasoned pilots. The gyro allows you to get familiar with flying and as you progress gives you more and more control until you're ready to fly manually with no help. The range is outstanding and the plane responds flawlessly. Beginner mode to intermediate mode is a quick transition. Intermediate mode gives you much more control and freedom, and keeps you engaged and wanting to keep flying. Advanced mode is why you never bought one in the first place, but now you have the ability to ease into it. I've had this for a few months and have crashed it multiple times, got it stuck in trees and it still flys like a champ. One other thing I do recommend is a tube of the styrofoam glue. The plane is made from a dense styrofoam and as durable and well built as it is, some crashes do more damage than others, but fear not, a little glue and you're back up in the air in no time. Pull the trigger, you won't be disappointed.

This plane, and frankly any of the other similar versions of the same (whether it be from Leambe/Volantex/Rage RC), all perform exceptionally well for their size. They can take a bit of wind, the stabilization handles exceptionally well, and boy can they take a beating. I now own two, this model and the Corsair from Rage RC. Both fly about the same, can't tell much of a difference. This one can fly marginally slower than the corsair due to the wing structure. As for the abuse, I flew this one at about 2/3 throttle into a goal post trying to be fancy. It connected with the inner leading edge of the right wing, prop flew off, plane spiraled about 20 feet away.. slapped the prop back on and away it flew. Both this and the Corsair have taken enough abuse that eventually the wing assembly began to separate from the fusealage. In both cases, I took a hobby knife to them, made a clean cut along the seam, and using Foam-Tac glue, I tacked both wing assembles back on and they both continue to be a joy to fly. What's great about these little planes, is you don't really need much space to fly. Once you've developed your skills enough, they can be flown in a pretty small space. Of course, having more room is more enjoyable, but not necessary. To try and simulate a test on how much load the wings can bear, I took my corsair into a vertical nose dive from ~100 feet up, at full throttle, and pulled out of the dive at about 20 feet off the ground. Zero issues. I love these little planes. Two of my buddies have since purchased a similar version (from Leambe i think?) and they both love em. I've since started getting into larger planes (my first being the Carbon Cub S2) which is also a lot of fun to fly, but in a way, I think I like these little ones better simply due to their versatility. Anyway, enough ranting. I hope this review helps. I know it would have helped me before buying, but if you're interested at all in trying out RC planes, for ~$100-$110 all in, these are incredibly fun, and boy howdy do they look good flying. If you do purchase, check out some of the 5-pack battery/multi-charger combos using the 400mah battery packs. If the connecter looks the same, they'll work, and will let you enjoy flying near continuously for an afternoon. Great starter planes, I hope this helps people make an informed decision. I think this plane is great. I love how it flies and the set up was easy. The bright color makes it easy to spot against trees and when it lands in deep grass. Easy to control and maneuver. Rugged enough despite lightweight. Flies fast enough and the battery charge lasts long enough for me to enjoy. My only criticism is the battery compartment is small and not always easy to close.

Tons of fun and relatively easy to fly if you've flown RC before. I have been flying RC planes for 30 years and I no trouble with this one. My son doesn't have nearly as much experience and he picked it up fairly quickly. Make sure you are in beginner mode until you get the hang of it. I mistakenly tried to fly in expert mode before I had it trimmed out and it was very difficult. The prop saver and the plane itself are very durable; the landing gear...not so much. In fairness, I was flying in my front yard with lots of trees and the the branches took out the gear. I would suggest flying in a big, open field unless you're very good. I hit several trees and landed on my roof (inadvertently). Not the plane's fault though; I was flying in a very confined space. Overall, tons of fun and no assembly required.

This little plane is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to try flying an rc airplane. The stabilization is outstanding!!! I can fly this thing in fairly windy conditions no problem. The tricky part is keeping it in range because if you fly with the wind it can get away from you quickly. I'm sure I came close to losing it once. It got so far I couldn't tell what the orientation was. Luckily I was able to point it in the right direction and it had plenty of power to fly against the wind back to me. It had to have been close to 4 or 500yds. I think it's rated for 300yds. I don't know but I could hardly see it. The three stabilization modes allow you to change the level of control from full stabilization for beginners to intermediate with less assistance and expert with no assistance giving you full control. This plane is pretty tough too. The foam is dense and doesn't break easily. The landing gear is decent. I've been practicing take offs and landings on pavement. I get close to 20min of flight time on one battery!!! That's incredible!!! I do have one thing that I don't like and that is the propeller break away feature. They pop off way too easy and they are kind of expensive. $4 each yikes!!! Other than that I highly recommend this plane. It's small enough to fly in a small park or field. Easy to fly with ability to advance your skills. Durable foam easily repaired with foam safe ca glue. I fly mine every chance I get. I've had it for about three months with no major issues. Update....I noticed the paint was starting to flake off so I decided to repaint it. I thought it would look good with some flames on the wings. My girlfriend painted them for me. She did an outstanding job. I told her that it looks so good I don't want to fly it. I don't want to mess it up. So I will most likely retire this one and get another one. Your First Flight Should Be Boring

    Pick the field before you pick the day

    Wide open ground with real clearance from people, roads, buildings, trees and overhead wires. Then wait for calm air. Early morning and the hour before sunset are usually the stillest parts of the day.

    Check the surfaces on the ground

    Move each control and watch the correct surface answer in the correct direction. Elevator and ailerons should settle near neutral when you let the sticks go. Confirm the propeller is tight and undamaged.

    Launch in beginner mode

    Hand launch level, into open air, with the throttle already up. Throwing harder does not help, and an aggressive upward angle bleeds off speed before the wing is flying. On smooth pavement with the gear fitted, roll it off the ground instead.

    Fly wide circles, then land early

    Climb high enough to fix a mistake and stay close enough to read which way the nose points. Set the approach up long and shallow. Going around again costs nothing.

A good first flight is a boring one. Launch clean, fly four or five wide circuits, put it down without forcing it into the ground. Tight turns demand faster corrections and make it much easier to lose track of which way the airplane is facing.

Hand launch or ground takeoff is settled by the surface, not by whether the wheels happen to be installed. Pavement or a mown strip suits wheels this small. Grass that looks short to you is deep enough to trip the gear and flip the airplane onto its back. When the ground is wrong, launch from the hand and land on the belly.

Landing is where new pilots discover that an airplane keeps flying after the throttle comes down. Start the approach early, keep it long and shallow, and reduce power gradually instead of pointing the nose at the grass. A little elevator near the surface slows the descent rate. Never try to rescue a bad approach, because a go-around is free and a nose-first arrival is not.

Batteries want a look before every charge. Anything swollen, punctured, crushed or unusually hot stays out of the airplane. Charge with the hardware supplied, let a warm pack cool first, and do not leave one charging unattended. Secure it in exactly the position the manual shows, because on an airframe this light the battery is most of the balance.

After a hard landing, disconnect power before your hands go near the propeller. Check the propeller and its mount, then the nose, the control surfaces, the linkages and the gear alignment. A propeller that released through the saver usually goes straight back on, but the saver doing its job proves nothing about the rest of the airplane. Recheck control direction before the next launch.
